
Patient Care Technician
The
objective of the Patient Care Technician is to train students
to acquire satisfactory skills and demonstrate competence
in a variety of Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician
procedures and laboratory techniques.
The procedures
and lab techniques include but are not limited to the
Study and Practices of Human Needs and Communications,
Infection Control and Safety Measures, Body Mechanics,
Vital Signs, Patient Care, Special Care, and Body Systems.
The Patient Care Technician
Program will place an emphasis on the application of knowledge
and Physical Care/Psychosocial skills in a classroom and
clinical setting. Included in this program is an externship
which provides the student the opportunity to gain hands-on
experience in a health care setting.
Upon
satisfactory completion of training, students will be
qualified to assume entry level positions in Hospital
Chronic Care settings and Home Health Aide agencies.
Students
will sit for the Georgia Department of Human Resources
State Certification Nursing Assistant Examination and
are eligible to sit for the Patient Care Technician
National Examination sponsored by the National Certification
for Competency Testing.
Graduates
will receive a Diploma upon completion and be registered
with the State as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
